Suicide Is No Solution

Are you depressed? discouraged? defeated? Are you tempted to end your life in suicide to “solve” your problems? It is NOT a solution!

Are you depressed? Are you discouraged? Do you feel defeated? Have your friends forsaken you? Do you feel lonely in a cold, hostile world? Do you feel life is not worth living? Is there no satisfaction, no hope, no purpose? Are you tempted to end your life in suicide to “solve” your problems?

Jesus, the Son of God, the Saviour of the world, does care for you personally. He said, “The Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost” (Luke 19:10). “[Cast] all your care upon him; for he careth for you” (1 Peter 5:7).

It is a lie of the devil that would make you believe there is no solution to life’s problems. He himself is doomed to eternal death and wants you with him. He tempts you to doubt the just and gracious God who loves and cares for you. Satan wants you to believe that ending your physical life will end your troubles.

You may have failed, and you may be a failure. Your supposed friends may have forsaken you. Addictions to drugs, alcohol, and tobacco may be chaining you fast. You may feel there is no hope—no solution but suicide.

Just why would a person take his own life?

Notes left by suicides often tell the story. Frustration, despair, loneliness, and grief are common reasons. Broken homes, the abuse of drugs, and addiction to alcohol are driving masses to despair. In short, the person who commits suicide has become convinced that there is no solution to his problems except death.

But suicide is the gateway to worse troubles—torment and anguish beyond the worst that can be experienced on earth. The person who takes his own life bars himself forever from all peace, happiness, and contentment. Think of that! Absolutely no more joy— forever!

Suicide is no solution!

Jesus said, “Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest” (Matthew 11:28). God knew how bitter, vain, and empty human life can be. He knew how sin can wrap its tentacles around a person and bind him tighter and tighter. And so He sent Jesus Christ to deliver us from sin. Jesus Christ came to deliver you from sin!

Jesus said, “I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly” (John 10:10). Jesus has power to give life, peace, happiness, and deliverance.

And when you are delivered, life will become worth living. You will have the joy of knowing that no longer do your sins stand against you. Besides, you will have a purpose in living—to bring glory, praise, and honor to the One who delivered you from the grip of sin.

Would you like to be delivered? Are you sick of your sins and ready for a new life? Then cry out to that heavenly Deliverer for mercy. Confess your sinfulness to Him, and plead His blood for forgiveness. He gave His life on the cross to save you from sin. God accepts the innocent blood of His perfect Son, Jesus Christ, as the ransom price to provide redemption for the souls of men. Reach out in faith and claim that provision for forgiveness of sin.

Then you can live! Peace and contentment will be yours as you obey God instead of your selfish desires. Fellow believers who care about you will be ready to help you when you start to despair. Best of all, your Deliverer will also become your friend, always ready to listen to your troubles and offer help and encouragement. He has promised to be right on hand whenever you call.

Suicide is no solution to life’s problems. It is just the beginning of a life of eternal pain and suffering. Is it really that serious?

Yes. First John 3:15 says, “Ye know that no murderer hath eternal life.” Suicide is murder just as truly as homicide is. But worst of all, a suicide can never obtain forgiveness for his murder.

Hebrews 9:27 says, “It is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment.”

After a person dies, he cannot change his standing before God. As he dies, so he will be judged before God. If he dies a suicide, he dies a murderer.

The most tragic thing is that suicide is so utterly unnecessary. There is a solution to life’s problems. It can be found right here in this life.

Jesus Christ is the solution. “Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life” (John 5:24).
